Miss Ardenbury,

With regards to the issue I first raised at our meeting earlier this month, I believe I have discovered the truth of the nature of Avalon and our existence here.

This is reality now.

The full explanation is complicated, philosophical, and frankly terrifying, so be prepared for quite a lot of information should you want to hear it. But it isn't that our powers have been suppressed or removed. It isn't that anyone's biology or spirit has changed here. This is who we ARE.

I'll swing by your office, that seems suitable. Whenever's good for you.

Awaaay we go -> action

[It takes Morgan very little time to get there, and his arrival comes in much the same way as before -- strolling on in, then spinning the chair and dropping into it. Without formality this time, since he's expected, and because he's not thinking about the polite and formal ways Cecelia prefers things. This might be an intrusion he has to apologize for later, but for now, well... the extremely uncharacteristic frown on his face is perhaps alarming enough to earn him a measure of forgiveness.]

This is going to be really hard to explain, so don't hesitate to badger me till you get a proper explanation.

[No prelude, no pleasantries, not even a token flirtation just to tweak her. That's how it is.]

Belief defines reality. That's where this all begins. Where it's all supposed to begin. The consensus, they call it. The order, the rules, the weight of countless souls all enforcing their beliefs on reality. And everything fits into that, from there. If you believe I'm sitting here, and I believe I'm sitting here, I'm sitting here. If you believe you can't see me, and I believe I can't see me, I'm invisible.

That's the hard part to get. Really, really get down to your soul, because once you understand that, you can change reality just by willing your own reality into existence.

[And it's not just enough to know it, to understand the principles. You have to wake up to that truth, to suddenly perceive things differently.]

[Morgan looks up at her from his musings.]

With me so far?

The more you push reality, the more it pushes back. It's possible, among other consequences, to get a backlash that distorts your own view of reality. Quiet, it's called. And then again, some mages go so crazy that they not only live in their own world, they project it into the outside world. Imagine someone walked down the street, and for twenty feet around them the city becomes a frozen forest, or a video game, or a hell.

[She's smart. She ought to be figuring out just what this has to do with Avalon.]

[His smirk has no humor in it.] It does seem pretty far-fetched, doesn't it? It'd be basically impossible... unless some magical catastrophe drastically reduced the amount of people who are contributing to the consensus reality they're vying against. And unless they had some immensely powerful framework to build on, like Arthurian legend. And unless they had some incredibly powerful magical item, like Excalibur...

This is a plausible paradigm. Whether in the worlds we live in, or in the tales of old, or in the stories we tell, a reality like this is in the scope of most people's understandings and beliefs. It's not something the mind instinctively and inherently rebels against as beyond possibility, even if it seems immensely unlikely or strange.

And that brings us to what Merlin told me -- that the magic we possess is how our 'energy' manifests here. Universally. [He taps one finger on her desk, hard, to punctuate the point.] That means we didn't lose our powers coming here. It isn't that werewolves stopped being werewolves and mages stopped being mages. It's that in this reality, this is who and what we are.

[That's the part that he struggles to communicate, almost pleading for her to understand. It's as difficult a concept to grasp as if they woke up one day to a blue sun -- a sun that not only had always been blue, not only would always be blue -- but literally could never have been yellow.]

[Morgan slumps back in the chair, relieved to a tiny degree amidst all the exhaustion.]

Honestly, I'd rather have been some weird clone than discovering this. I'm not sure I can really emphasize how absolutely terrifying this is to me.

[His word will have to be good enough, because he truly can't express it to someone who isn't a fellow Mage, with all the philosophy and functionality that comes with it. But perhaps her knowing that his ability to change reality has literally been written out of reality is clue enough. There's no way to phrase that sentence without it being terribly, awfully ominous.]
